Hotels with ground floor rooms

I've had a couple of travelodge's where i've requested ground floor and they've not been accessible, it's worth looking at individual ones where you wish to stay.

My last 2 stays (very recent) in Travelodge by Gatwick airport have both been ground floor rooms without me requesting/needing them.

Surprised the hotel really cared how many were staying in a room? Have to say never had anyone count the number of people coming into my room with decades of staying in hotels most months.
Fully agree on the ground use of space, though some hotels are "upside down" with restaurants etc on the upper floors and rooms below. I'd argue there is more issue of rooms next to the bar/restaurant being ones with frequent complaints about the noise level etc.

In my experience (mainly Premier Inn and Travelodges, admittedly) I've never stayed in a room where you could open the window wide enough for someone to get through, whichever floor it was on - I suspect yours is a rarity.
Rooms with air conditioning tend not to have windows that open at all, while those that don't restrict the opening to a few inches, for either security reasons (if on the ground floor) or safety (higher floors).
We regularly stay in an (ex-Hilton) Premier Inn that is on only two stories, with nearly half the rooms on the ground floor.

As you must have a ground floor room, you will have to speak to the hotel anyway to be certain of getting that. I've never seen a hotel website which asks what floor you want. Many will have a box for 'special requests' but there is no guarantee these requests will/can be met.
It's also not true that few hotels have ground floor rooms. Many large hotels, or any hotel which has been extended over the years is likely to have them.

I would look up hotels online with ground floor rooms, if I were you, I would contact the hotel direct with your needs. We booked with an online company and they offered 3 rooms on their site a double, twin or single, we booked the double and were allocated room 1. A month later we were contacted by the hotel to say we had booked a downstairs room and did we need it? They had a room exactly the same on the first floor with a different colour scheme and would we be prepared to change due to a potential booking for a couple that one of them couldn't manage the stairs. We have no problem with stairs (didn't specifically book a ground floor room) and of course would change to an upstairs room of the same specification to accommodate someone who could not manage the stairs. As we were prepared to swap to a first floor room we were not charged for the parking we had reserved as good will.
If you need a ground floor room talk to the hotel direct, they may be able to move someone who has not requested but been allocated a room on the ground floor.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0
