Can Someone Explain my Vanguard S&S ISA?

Hi,

I setup a Vaguard S&S ISA just over one year ago, I pay £100 per month into it. At present my ISA value is £1629, however, the current value of my investment is £1529, with a total cost of £1499, I do not understand this.

Additionally,  my investment seems to be in a LifeStrategy @100% Equity Fund - Accumulation - again I am not sure what this means.

Can anyone explain what the above means and if the S&S ISA is worth keeping?

Your ISA value is the total amount in your account, including investments and cash.  From you figures it looks like one month (£100) has been paid in but not invested yet.

LifeStrategy 100% Equity Fund Accumulation is an investment fund which is 100% in equity (no bonds etc.).  This is at the higher end of the risk spectrum.

Whether it is worth keeping depends on your personal circumstances and attitude to risk.

When did the most recent £100 go into the Vanguard account? If it was very recently, then it’s likely that it is about to be invested but hasn’t quite been yet. Within a few days I’d expect the ISA vale and the current value to be the same.

The cost is the amount you’ve invested (the £100 month for however many months) plus the fees you’ve paid. The current value  of the investment includes the growth in value that’s occurred - so £30.

LifeStrategy @100% Equity Fund is the fund you have chosen to invest in. If you look at the list of funds available on Vanguard’s website you’ll find an explanation of what is included in it.

Whether the S&S ISA is worth keeping will depend on lots of factors and will be personal to you.

Is it possible to change, at 39 and with this being my first venture into stocks and shares, I am not adverse to taking risks but perhaps 10% in bonds might be more sensible.

How did you decide that a S&S ISA was a sensible thing to do with (some of) your money, and, having done that, what led you to LifeStrategy 100?  You seem unaware of how you came to be invested in this, was it your decision and/or were you receiving advice of some sort?

When you set up the ISA , there would have been a range of different investments you could have chosen. You must have chosen the Life Strategy 100 fund.
