Tried Changing to New Broadband Provider - was told my old provider cancelled the order on my behalf

Has anyone experienced this? Does it make sense? Or is it as simple as the new provider doesn't want to honour the order? (which was placed during a special discount period & they've said a new order will need to be placed)

Just read the MSE article about "New plans to broadband and landline switching easier" (article states new rules came into place in Dec 2022).

After reading this, what the new provider said makes even less sense.

Any tips/help pls?

Well without knowing who you're with and where you're going to (or wanting to go to) its hard to be of any help whatsoever.

However the most likely two cause of this are:  1) you can't actually get the new provider where you are for whatever reason (or the provision you asked for, ie FTTP and they don't offer it where you are yet for example), or 2) you owe the old provider some money for whatever reason.  Since you always pay in advance this is rare, though early exit fees can be the exception here.
