Unfair Garage Increase

I have been renting a Garage from Hyde Housing Association for around 23 years.
My Current Weekly Charge is £9.62 and they are putting it up to £27.08 on 3rd April.
As a 77 year old pensioner I can't afford this. I have been comfortable with being close to my Flat.
I don't want to give up the Garage and wondered if they CAN increase it this much.
Any help would be grateful
Regards Penguin

    Hi
They can. What does the contract/agreement state?

Often, HA property/garages are heavily discounted when compared with private and even coucil property, so IMO you were luck re the sub 10 quid to have one.

Can you opt out of the garage?

    Thanks

Do you store a car in it or is it an extension of the house full of stuff?

As said above, it depends what your contract says. It would be surprising that they would increase it if they were not legally allowed to but its worth finding out.

    Yes, read the contract.

As I understand it usually renting garages is a commercial contract, not the residential contract you will have with your housing association which comes with loads of legal protections and regulations governing pretty much everything including rent rises.

So sorry, until you quote the EXACT wording of any clauses about rent or rent increases in your garage contract nothing we can do.

Most people, including myself, park on the road.  But clearly your choice as to where you park - or indeed in you have a car or not.

Best wishes & good luck! Artful, OaP, 75 yrs old...

Find the original contract. If you can't find it then ask the housing association for it. Check what it says about rent increases and also the notice period required.
