Just tried to create an online account to provide supporting finance details for my daughters loan application and discovered a loan I took out 30 years ago, and paid off more than 20 years ago, is blocking me from getting online access.  After calling the help line who couldn't help other than to say my original paper application would have caused this situation and  I have to write a letter to SLC to get me account reset.
I'm wondering how many other people have had this problem?
Also how long are SLC allowed to keep records for historical loans?

Slc was established in 1989, but mortgage style loans have been sold off, so the first loans that slc are still responsible for are from 1998. So we are looking at 25 years ago. We have reached the point where some people still repaying their loans will have offspring applying for loans.

You have the right to erasure (often known as the right to be forgotton) if there is no reason for the slc to keep your data. See the details here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/776895/Data_Subject_Rights.pdf

page 4 goes into more detail and the document tells you how to do so.

Thanks silvercar, problem with asking to be forgotten at this stage is that requires me to make a request and wait for several weeks for it to be actioned.  What's frustrating me most is had I known they still had me in their system I could have done something about it years ago, rather than at the last minute when I'm trying to give them information related to my daughters application.  It's data protection at it's worst.

This issue was sorted within a few days thankfully after writing to the Student Loans company and emailing a complaint.

My advice if you are a parent whoes children will be going to University and you yourself have ever had a Student loan is make sure you know or find out your own Student loan customer reference number before your child applies themselves. It will make the process easier.
