Chase Bank - Declined Refund
[Deleted User]
I purchased some hearing protection online and paid using my Chase Debit Card. I returned the goods and the trader actioned a refund which Chase declined.
When I queried why the refund was declined, I received this by way of an explanation:
When I queried why the refund was declined, I received this by way of an explanation:
‘ a case was raised to the relevant team to look into why the refund was declined. Upon the investigation from the relevant team, the refund was declined due to transient issue from the merchant side. Chase UK accepts only credit transfer from the Gambling Merchant. Kindly contact merchant to reprocess the refund again’
I know what a gambling merchant is but ……….?
Edit:
To add to my confusion, they have just sent this message:
‘The reason why the refund was declined is true. We do not accept any card payments except gambling withdrawals. I would suggest to contact the merchant and do the transaction again as a faster payment. Give them your Chase account number and sort code. I assured you that the transaction will be processed.’
Is Chase saying that all vendor refunds of purchases made using their card will now be declined? My wife was in Cotton Traders today returning some items bought online - ‘we will refund to your card’. I wait with bated breath to see what happens.

How was the refund processed?
Life in the slow lane0 -
As a credit back to the card used to make the original payment. No different from any other refund such as damaged/returned items on an online shopping account. Chase seems to be working to a different set of rules to other Banks.born_again said:How was the refund processed?0 -
IIRC this was discussed in one of the big Chase threads.
If the merchant tries to just credit to the payment card details, effectively as a negative debit card payment, it doesn't work.
But if the funds are refunded against the previous transaction it should work.
I assume the exception for gambling is due to the chance there may not be a recent specific transaction to refund against.
So this may be due to how the merchant tried to refund you.
Did you have to provide your payment details again?
FYI I have received a number of refunds on my Chase DC.1 -
No - I did nothing. I just sent the goods back and immediately received an email saying that they had actioned a refund to my card. Exactly, the same type of email that my wife received from CT this morning after she returned some items to a local store. In 50 years, I have never had this with any other card that I have held.0

How kind of them given that in UK gambling merchants aren't allowed to accept credit card payments.[Deleted User] said:...Chase UK accepts only credit transfer from the Gambling Merchant.

Can you ask chase to do a chargeback?0

The vendor has done nothing wrong. It tried to refund the full amount and Chase refused to accept it. I have no idea where this gambling merchant nonsense has come from. Chase is now saying if I can persuade the vendor to do a faster payment it will accept it!phillw said:Can you ask chase to do a chargeback?0 -

I have. The specifics of gambling merchants is that the refund is bigger than the purchase amount if you win. I think the idiot that replied was a little (sarcastic smiley) confused.[Deleted User] said:
