The thought suddenly came to me that I had about £10,000 in a Barclays Current account and the to clever by half bank never thought of saying, Hi, shouldn't you be doing something with some of that? Yes, I know that it is my responsibility to manage my money. So I went into my bank today an asked for information on what they could offer me and was told I need an appointment to discus that with an appropriate member of staff. The next free appointment is in May would you believe.
So, my thoughts are stuff the Bank I will ask this forum where is a good place to put £5000 which I might require instant access to?

The Barclays Rainy Day Saver account (which pays 5.12% AER) would be the best option for easy access to £5k but you'd need to have 2 DDs coming out of your Barclays current account every month to cancel out the monthly Blue Rewards fee (you need Blue Rewards to access the Rainy Day Saver) and you'd also need to have a minimum of £800 paid in to your current account each month, either from a salary, pension (or other form of income) or simply a transfer from an external account.
If you already have online banking with Barclays, joining their Blue Rewards scheme and opening a Rainy Day Saver can be done in about 5-10 minutes.0 -
Zopa using the different Boosted Pots; I've several pots for each of the different %'s and moving £'s into/out to nominated account whilst working within notice dates is very prompt0

It might not give the best rates possible, but will be a lot better than the money just sitting in your current account. Why not add more than £5000? You can access the money for these account within one working day maximum.0
