Baxi boiler...

Right, I think my central heating is knackered, but i just need to check something...
If the boiler has gone, should the actual 'fire' still light? Or does it all go at the same time?

We need a bit more to go on, are you saying that you have a boiler behind the gas fire with only the fire working or is it a boiler that lights but doesn't heat anything?

It isn't a Potterton boiler is it -(Potterton is the same company as Baxi) as they have certain issues with them. Would need to know the model though and age, and a more descriptive summary of the problem.

hey... its a baxi bermuda B, and i got in the other day, went to switch it on, and well... nothing. the pilot light is out, the actual 'fire' part wont light, nothing at all. I have NO idea whats happened, and im really sorry i cant be more specific cause im not very technically minded, but all i know is that my son and i are freezing.

Theres a boiler which im assuming makes the radiators work and gives me hot water, and thats behind the 'fire' part...
and absolutely none of it is working...

Ok, you have a Back Boiler Unit Bbu, the good news is that barring the heat exchanger leaking not too many faults on these are final, not sure which gas valve you will have with this but the first step is to try relighting the pilot, normally you will find instructions on the inside telling you how to do this, try cleaning the fluff off!

Is there power to the system?
Is there gas ? Do you have a gas hob ?
Check the meter, is the valve on.?

I cant light the pilot, and when i try switching the 'fire' on, i cant hear the gas coming through it, if that makes any sense? I know 100% its not an electical problem cause the 'fake coals' at the front are still coming on...

and that, i have to say, is the million dollar question... ive been on at my landlord for the last year to send someone round to do it, but he hasnt... So, I honestly cant answer that... Ive been here nearly two years and it certainly hasnt been done in that time...
