Gym Membership - Closed Some Facilities

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the correct part of the forum to post this, so apologies if it's not.
In January I signed up the the Nuffield Gym for the yearly membership, but at the time I was advised the Jacuzzi Pools (two of them) were closed for a short period due to energy costs but I was advised this would be short term and they would re-open after a few months. I did express my disappointment about this via e-mail to the manager, however I did still go ahead on the promise they would re-open.
Last week I received an e-mail saying they would be permanently shutting. Just wondering where I stand on whether I could challenge to cancel early as what I signed up for hasn't exactly what i've got. I would probably want to move to another gym that has these facilities, but am I stuck in this for a year as the change isn't significant enough to warrant a fee-free cancellation?
Thanks in advance for any responses

This is the critical part. If your contract (and verbal promises count) was that the pools would open during your membership period, then they are in breach of the contract and you should be able to cancel for a pro rata refund if you paid a year in advance, or just cancel from now on. Don't cancel any direct debit though, that doesn't cancel the contract.Hi all,

If you don't have that promise in writing, or no reasonable evidence of it as a contractual commitment, then it's down to the terms of the contract and whether you have grounds to cancel without penalty.0 -
yes this is pre-contract information that you relied on when making the contract. You have the option to cancel.1

Excellent, thank you both for your responses, i'll contact the gym now to get that process of cancellation started.0

Having a copy of that sent email (I dont suppose they replied?) wont hurt if they push back too.

Having read various stories about the grot which can develop in these jacuzzi pools I'm actually surprised that anywhere still has them and than anybody would want to use them.

Their jaccuzzis are most likely a lot cleaner than most people's shower trays!0
