Unpaid cheque

I recently issued a large cheque, which was completely correctly drawn with a signature matching the bank records & funds available to cover it.
The bank returned it unpaid with the reason, “advice of drawing required - please represent.”
My understanding is that this is not a correct reason for dishonouring a cheque and that the bank should have paid it according to the Bills of Exchange Act 1882.
The response from the bank to the complaint is that they can stop any payment they like!
Any comments please?

See reason code 34
It is a valid reason for refusal. Your bank are missing some information that allows them to pay it.
Have you asked them what you need to do for them to honour the cheque?

When I recently wrote a particularly large cheque, my bank sent me an SMS message when the cheque was presented by the recipient asking me to respond within a few hours to confirm that the cheque was genuine. Unfortunately I missed the deadline and so the cheque payment was declined.0

I presented a cheque, for under £30, and this same scenario occurred.
Both myself, and the other person, contacted our banks, to investigate to advise us further, and neither bank could find any reason for it.
Another cheque was written - same account and it went through as normal.
Sometimes these things are just glitches.
