Probate online

I applied for probate online earlier today and paid the probate fees. I have received an email back stating that my payment was successful. However, underneath the words 'Payment for: Probate Fees' there is a reference number. I am not sure if this is supposed to be my probate reference number or a completely different payment reference number. Has anybody else applied online and would you know if it is correct that they give you a completely different number once they have received your payment ? I can't get through on the phone or webchat to the Probate Office.

Was that from Gov dot UK Pay?
If so you should have a second email from probate Registry that will give you the case number.Credit card debt - NIL

Yes, one from Gov.UK Pay and another from Probate registry. I just wanted to make sure Gov.UK Pay hadn't credited my payment to someone else's application. I suppose it's correct that Gov.UK Pay used a different reference number, maybe they have their own reference numbers that are different from the Probate registry case numbers. I'll just hope it's all okay.0

When I did a paper Probate application a couple of years ago, you could pay over the phone by debit card and they gave you the payment reference and you put this in a box on the form, rather than enclose a cheque - so that's presumably why you have 2 separate numbers.0

One thing to note, is that although they say you will get an email when the will is received, there was nothing heard until the email saying probate was approved, so do not worry if you hear nothing but the tracking says it is thereCredit card debt - NIL

I applied for probate on 28th Jan, received 2 emails just as you did - one to confirm payment & one to confirm application with different references.
Unlike SusieT’s experience, I posted the documentation on 30th Jan & received a confirmation of receipt email exactly 1 week later.1
