Bank Accounts that function on weekends?

I have a First Direct account (for important bills) and a Starling account for spending and smaller worries such as my Amazon subscribe and save.
First Direct won’t process standing orders etc over weekends. Whereas Starling will. So the system I have set up to move money from my salary in First Direct to my Starling account and then into various ‘spaces’ isn’t working as First Direct are not sending the payment on the date but rather the next avaialble working day. It also annoys me as the balances etc in First Direct are not always real time but outgoing payments don’t always show on the list until ‘close of business’ so I get muddled easily.
I would like to keep two accounts so I can evidence both my salary, bills and mortgage payments and keep my daily spending separate. I could open but a second one with Starling but there is a fee to have a second account. Are all banks as archaic as First Direct or is there another that will send payments etc real time?

Most banks are.
Chase, Monzo and Kroo will do what you want.2 -
Starling actually do now allow a second sole-name account for free, but with some restrictions (such as not having a separate debit card to your primary account).
Regardless of that, it’s always a good idea to have at least one other account with some funds in an entirely separate bank - just in case of issues with your primary bank. To that end, I would explore other modern banks as suggested above. They would suit your requirements and allow you to split up your funds. You may also consider keeping your First Direct account to be able to use their regular saver in the future.

I too have a FD account. I agree DD/SO's are only processed on working days. However i receive faster payments on weekends and can seem them in the app with an updated balance.. I am sure if I sent any money on a weekend, it would also show. Also any transactions on my debit card show as pending transactions. Admittedly the balance is not updated, but the last known balance is shown. This all in the FD app.The FD systems are appalling at updating the app and the website for FD credit card transactions. But the debit card transactions are pretty much instantaneous.1

What you have to remember is the new players like Starling etc. Have nice custom built systems for modern banking. Major banks are running on legacy systems. The only way to change that is a total new system.
Which costs wise is goings to be in large millions & years to introduce. When you consider all the training etc involved.
Also lets not forget what happened to TSB when they swapped over. No matter how much testing is done, something will always go wrong.
I can guarantee every time there is a upgrade to one of the many parts of our system, it will mess up something else.
Daughter has been co-opted as part of her role, to test a new windows update to be introduced on the system. So far there is a massive list of issues caused, & this is not a banking system update. But is meaning a lot of systems need tweaking. Each tweak has a knock on effect...Life in the slow lane2 -

A second Starling account should sort you out, or open an accoint with one of the other modern accounts like Monzo. I wouldn't bother with banks that are stuck in the dark ages.

If you transfer by FP from your account at weekends it does show in the receiving bank on the day it was sent but statement wise it records it on the next working day0 -
TSB dont do standing orders weekends. You can send money manually instantly though.0

I wouldn't bother with banks that are stuck in the dark ages.Yes, being able to split money into pots and have bills come out of the pots. Direct debits and standing orders showing up before they come out. Budgeting features to analyze your spending. Being able to get paid a dau early in the case if Monzo. Being able to transfer money to someone that is nearby or is a phone contact without having to exchange bank details.Debit card paymens clearly shown as soon as you make them instead of being in a separate pending section for a day or two. Splitting bills in the app. Being able to take a photo of the receipt in the app and attach it to the transaction. Being able to add notes to each transaction in the app. Being able to easily see all the transcriptions to)from a particular person/company in the app.Being able to create virtual debit cards for use online. The old fashioned banks are adding some of these features very very very very slowly, so why not use a modern bank that has them all already?0
