Zafira diesel running rough

My 1.7 Zafira has been running rough at idle for a few years, it also splutters when cold.
I had the timing belt and glow plugs replaced a few years ago, although they only changed three plugs.
I believe it's simple to clean the EGR valve, could that be the problem?
It's a 2013 model and done 110,000 miles, no fault codes. The exhaust does seem a little smokey, always passed it's MOT.
Perhaps it's now getting worse, not sure.

Commom issue on the 1.7 cdti is hunting of the revs when ticking over sometimes its very little and at other times its more pronounce, the fix is there is a SCV suction control valve on the fuel pump that needs replacing gets worn over time £50 to buy easy to replace

had it on my 1.7 cdti astra and it fixed the hunting if that is your issue get it done
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

I had read something like that after I bought the car about three years ago. But my MOT garage didn't seem to want to fix it. I did ask them to. I assumed it was a big job.
Not sure if the smokey exhaust is a problem, sometimes I notice it, other times not.
  • EGR clean it with carb cleaner. About 2 hrs work.

add a whole can of Forte cleaner to 1/4 of a tank of fuel and give it a damn good thrashing, blow the muck out then fill up with branded diesel
