Hi,

I looked at my Octopus account today and found I was credited with AFP twice, this seems to be due to me having a complex electric heating system (Total Heating with Total Control), thus giving me 2 meters with 2 MPANs.

According to the government document on eligble postcodes, I'm in one. Which is strange as all the properties in my postcode are (or should be) on electric storage heaters.

I was just wondering if anyone else with such setups has been credited twice?

Haven't spoken to octopus yet, so I'm also wondering what other suppliers have said if this has happened elsewhere.

Thanks!

I would think you are just one of a few to doubly benefit firstly with the one payment then the second.

    Donate or keep.

If you are in Scotland they are going by census data from 2011 rather than 2021 like they are in England and Wales, could that be why?

The list given by the government to suppliers was based on MPANs so it makes sense you've been credited twice - I guess THTC is a small enough minority in the areas that qualify that they didn't think to make a rule to weed out situations where one account/address has two MPANs.

It weighs be interesting to hear what Octopus say about it but I can't imagine they'll ask for it back.  Donating would probably be best if you feel guilty about receiving it.

    Thanks all!

Part of me wonders if its because I'm with octopus and not SSE/Ovo that I've been credited twice. I know octopus can't handle THTC, how the last tenant switched is beyond everyone I've talked to about it!

I think I'll just keep quiet about it, if they want to take it back they can, not mine to begin with. Seeing as I'll be trying to switch meter type this year the boost could come in very handy.

    Thanks again everyone.

Definitely keep; wouldn't have any faith that the "system" wouldn't decide to claim it back at some future date!!

We gave £100 to our local warm bank as when we popped there to donate it, it was clear lost of people needed this space.

Deciding what to do with the other £100

Why would they care? It's funded by the taxpayer, not by the suppliers: thy're simply being used as the conduit to push the payment out.

If you have two MPANs I expect you pay the daily standing charge twice. If you have one home and pay standing charge twice then I think it is fair that you get 2 rebates.

should you even have qualified with electric heating, according to Gov.UK,

You’re eligible for this payment if the main way you heat your home uses:

    • tank or bottled gas
    • liquid petroleum gas (LPG)
    • oil
    • wood
    • solid fuel

    Y'all take care now.
