Refer a friend loophole

That's really good seems the same with Eon Next refer a friend scheme so could be a fair few extra quid in this for people switching on the government EPG Standard variable rate.bristolleedsfan said:
Octopus system automatically schedules and pays referral credits after 1st payment has been made, if new customers make first payment later than other customers referral credits get added later.[Deleted User] said:
It has been paid but not as quickly as some people are expecting. My previous 2 referrals in 2021/2 also took in excess of two months. I would expect a supplier to wait until the transfer of supply is confirmed and the new account has been set up.Mstty said:
That's very interest eon next is on payment of first DD payment. I thought I read on Octopus terms and conditions it was a similar timescale. Might be worth you chasing that up.[Deleted User] said:
Not with Octopus it doesn’t. I referred my daughter to Octopus in early Nov and we both got a referral credit about 2 1/2 months later.Mstty said:Something I have been thinking about with the return of £50 payments for referring a friend etc to the referer and referee.
It appears many of these rewards are paid when the first DD is made or sooner.
So what is to stop people switching to one then another and making themselves and a friend £100+ in these tough times.
I wouldn't mention this to less energy savvy people just those that know their usage/calculations and fancy earning a bit of free cash and no different from the touted bank switches in the MSE newsletters.
Read below @dolor and give Octopus a nudge as it appears it is the same and should have been paid to you and daughter some time back on payment of the first DD.

There is a rule that someone has to wait 28 days in between switches
I would also be tempted to go back and forth once with my name and once with partners etc.
EDF - Once per property
Octopus - Need to have left them at least 12 months earlier.
British Gas - Used to pay out after a couple of months and had some kind of return via referral limitation
Eon Next - They do not state limitation, being as they use Octopus system I would be surprised if different
Not refer a friend, still worth it for those on EPG tariff to go with them for 3 months to gain £50 credit
OVO have been offering £50 credit for electricity or dual fuel switches since 26 January - ends 31 March or when 15000 switches have taken place.

Good info1 -
Just to add to the info in the thread so far, my Octopus referral payment was credited to my account 4 days (2 working days though) after the first direct debit payment cleared. Worth noting that in practice this actually took a little over a month since switching due to how the billing cycles happened to fall, but the credit was granted well before my first bill had been generated at least. In my case this was still pretty much spot on for the usual timeframe they suggest in their FAQs, so it seems there could be some variation in the exact payout timeframe.

Both accounts get credited at the same time.[Deleted User] said:

I would presume the payout is given to both at the same time, but I was the new customer being referred in this case.[Deleted User] said:

i got my Octopus bonus the day after making a "token" payment by card. 1st DD due 28th Feb. i haven't referred anyone yet so don't know how it works the other way around.0

I joined Octopus about two years ago, they took my first direct debit more or less straight away, and I had my referral payment credited 7 days after joining. I only stayed with them a couple of months though, jumping to a good tariff elsewhere from their tracker, and never referred anyone myself.

Nice one that sort of proves the theory, grab the reward then off to another supplier for another £50...happy daysJyana said:I joined Octopus about two years ago, they took my first direct debit more or less straight away, and I had my referral payment credited 7 days after joining.
