Student loan ballooned, because SLC never registered my contributions. Demands proof from my jobs

Hello!
I'm having some issues proving to SLC that I've been making student loan contributions, and I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue.
Here's a timeline of events:
Several years into my career, I check my SLC balance, and I find out that they only started registering my contributions when I had started my third job. They immediately start coming in when I start the job in March 2019. Up until that point, there were no contributions, and I just kept accruing interest.
I'm sure that in all of my jobs I had signed the paper saying on that I'm on the Type 2 repayment plan, and the contributions would've been deducted through PAYE...
When I contacted SLC about this, they just said that I should provide proof that my employers had been making these contributions on my behalf. He didn't give any specific examples -- just said something vague about how I can upload the employers' bank statements to the SLC website, and they'd correct it...
In that time, my debt had ballooned from 32k to 42k. I currently managed to get it down to 28k.
I'm at a bit of a loss, because the first two companies that I've worked for are big corporations, and they're very hard to get hold of -- even to retrieve some simple payslips.
Any idea what I could do? What would constitute as sufficient proof, and am I right to be concerned?
Thanks!

Did you not notice if there were deductions for student loans on your payslips for the 3 years you were working across the two first jobs?

Have you got your p60s?
Any student loan payments will be on those. HMRC should also have this data.
