Nationwide Fixed Rate Bond maturing

Just had a letter from Nationwide telling me that when my Bond matures (I think April, they don't actually say) any future Bond I take out with them will not be able to pay interest into a different bank account.  This is annoying as I've relied on the interest to top up my NatWest current account, and will be all the more of a loss with the cost of living crisis and rocketing bills.  Bad move Nationwide, I'm disappointed in you.

So I don't want to re-invest with Nationwide.  Any recommendations for Fixed Rate Savings Bonds that will let you have monthly interest paid to another bank?

My Cash Isa is with them too, and also maturing about May this year, so presumably the same thing will apply.  I took them both out for five years at a time when interest rates weren't too low, and they have been a useful monthly supplement.  Will have to find new homes for both.  Might move the ISA to Coventry as I have a small Easy Access Cash ISA with them already, but no idea what to do about the Savings Bond.

Many savings providers are smaller banks and building societies that do not offer a current account. So by default they have to pay out interest to whoever you bank with . Often these providers have the best rates anyway.
Do not worry if you have not heard of some of them in this list, as they are all covered by the FSCS £85K compensation scheme.

Coventry have a decent 1year bond (actually 14 month) for existing customers, paying 4.2% AER  or monthly 4.12 gross.
    Edit. Max 20k

Open to all equivalent bond, pays 4.1% up to 250k
No 2 or 3 year terms at this time though.

  • Oh right, thanks for that too.  My existing ISA with them would mean I could only invest another £65K to stay within the £85K limit, so I will have to do some working out.

Liking the look of Skipton BS 3-year at 4.2%.

Yes, saw those. I was thinking of doing one of each of the, 18-month 1-year and 2-year, to have bonds maturing more often.
