No re-housing

I am getting very depressed. My rent affordability assessment shows I cannot afford my new rent - services charges not covered by benefits have been raised 600-800%. What someone like me would do then, is go to Housing as we would be considered "technically homeless" by local council.

Stonewater residents are blocked from doing that.
We are not allowed. We have to stay in our flats. And pay. Managers at local council are avoiding my calls. MP knew begining of Feb. They are all in on it. I don't know what to do.

This is unbelievable. My head cannot take it in.

  • Keep trying - they are an overloaded charity doing their best (workload probably related to 13 years of Tory misrule..)

    ( & /or try local Citizens advice )

    Good luck!

One of our friends got help from his local councillor. Not the MP but the local councillor. They are for the ‘ward’ that you live in. There’s usually three councillors for each ward.

My MP is always very helpful when Housing isn't doing what they should.   But I am afraid I wouldn't go for the conspiracy theory.  Housing is very overloaded and will sometimes say things that are incorrect to avoid having to take action, particularly if that means regarding someone as homeless.  Its called Gatekeeping, but isn't a great conspiracy .., having that idea in your head will demotivate you.

I would have thought that if you can't afford a property, that is between you and the council, nothing to do with the housing association.  They can't tell you you can't make a homeless application based on affordability.  But if someone else knows better, please comment.

And yes, I am afraid it can take days to get through to Shelter.  You used to be able to email them, not sure if you still can. ~worth trying though.

I second going to a local Councillor. They are usually more useful at getting things done than an MP.
This is because they have a smaller constituent to manage and spend more crime in the local area with greater access to council officers.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
