Hi, I am being made redundant and not entitled to redundancy pay. I have some good friends at the company who have been supportive during the process. I think they will want to get me a leaving present so wanted to ask people if it’s cheeky to suggest to them that they give me a gift card as this would help me financially while I am looking for work

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that - assume that you haven't been there for two years? If you have, you do have some rights and could contact acas to find out more.

This is what the government says you can do following redundancy -

I'm sure your colleagues wouldn't mind at all if you suggested that you'd like a gift card, or even money if that would be more helpful to you. They will surely understand.

Normally there is one person in the office who will collect the money and you’ll probably know who will be doing it. Have a quiet word with them and ask for a gift card to help you out.0
