Faulty Shower Tray after 2 months

I have a shower tray that started blistering after 2 months of use and the supplier has said that they will replace the product for free which is good... but here is the clincher... it will cost me more to fit the replacement, and I don't have the money to get another one refitted. So the shower enclosure will need to be removed, tiles removes, flooring around the tray and other things that would need to be removed.... arghhhh... so a replacement brings a whole new meaning.

I have said about them footing the bill for fitting, but they have said that they can only replace or do a full refund.

What can I do?

Did you buy and fit the tray yourself?  Or buy it yourself and pay someone else to fit it?  Or did you pay someone to supply and fit?

What method of payment did you use? Was it over £100?

I bought the tray and fitted by a professional.

I used credit card and yes it was over £100... I'm awaiting quote from my bathroom fitter on the cost of the demo to refit.

You could claim for consequential losses. I would obtain a quote for refitting and send that to the manufacture (who really, who you purchased it from). CC in your credit card company, they are jointly liable.

I am not sure fitting costs to a separate entity are consequential losses, but you could always try.

Consequential loss is a funny subject. You bought a (faulty) shower tray and are entitled to have it repaired or replaced.

A consequential loss might be a loss such as for example you had arranged to let the house out and now couldn't - you have lost rent because of the faulty shower.

A consequential loss is unlikely to be costs of re-installing the tray.

    Some interesting reading here

That's a shame, it would have been an easier situation to navigate had you paid the professional to supply and fit, because the liability for the cost and trouble of replacement would be theirs.

yes agree - never buy from.one source and engage a second source to fit it.

this situation often arises with carpets
