I realise this is not necessarily connected but have learned the hard way how things can go wrong with installation.  I now have home insurance (only £14 a month) and fitted isolation valves myself when fitting a dishwasher (complete pain in the bum as the pipes for the  tap I had was a european fitting so I had some problems finding the right connectors).  But I learned a lot lol.  I have some disabilities too, but still managed it.  I also make sure I know where my stop !!!!!! is asap after moving in a property (again after I had a major shower leak that almost destroyed a wall etc and I didn't know where to go to turn the water off.

Now, home contents insurance, knowing where the stop !!!!!! is and isolation valves where ever there is a water connection are my basic 'cover all bases' requirement in any property.  But this is because of my experiences, and learned the hard way.

Please don't take this the wrong way... but calling out a plumber would have cost a lot less than replacing the wooden floors. even getting AO to replace them if the claim was successful would always lead to a significant delay.  At worst, contents insurance would have got a plumber round quicker and allowed a claim for floor replacement if necessary.  Not stuff you should have to do, but it does make life easier.

Ao sent an installer 3 days later to turn it off, but the engineer was send after that so I had 2 visits from different depts.. I do see  that the damage was made worse by me leavingit,, I had no money to get anyone in to turn it off, hence why I had to wait.. I don't have contents insurance, but I think in future I will get it!

If your oak flooring was nailed or glued in place it'll be normally covered under the building insurance as its classed as a fixture

If you struggle to turn your water off in an emergency, a Surestop remote stop tap might give you some peace of mind?
    Surestop Remote Stop !!!!!! Push-Fit 15mm
It's like a light switch and can be installed above the worktop so no crawling under the sink or turning stiff handles.

I fitted one for my disabled sister-in-law.
