First affordable family car

Hi
Any suggestions on an affordable second hand family car? Currently driving a VW Polo (2015) but could really do with some extra boot space.
Not bothered about curb appeal. Dacia Stepway and Duster have come up but not sure on the reputations? Renault Captur, anyone got any better suggestions? Looking to buy outright second hand.
Thanks

"one-size-up" cars like Fiat Tipo.
Van based cars like Renault Kangoo.

Skoda Fabia Estate - it's a Polo with a really big boot! The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.2

Dacia do pretty basic practical cars which aren't very cool so are usually pretty well priced.
If you want space it'd be worth trying to find a Dacia Logan.

Generally, models like the Sandero Stepway and the Renault Captur are no bigger than the cars they are based on, the normal Sandero and Clio.
In fact some are actually a little smaller and they are more often priced at a premuim as these mock SUV type vehicles are in vogue.
There are then some models based on the normal hatchback versions that have been increased in size a bit, like the Skoda Scala or Roomster or the Dacia Logan and the new Dacia Jogger which get classed as small MPV's.
One type the have just increased the ride height and added body cladding to make them appeal to SUV buyers.
The other is a more practical revision that has increased the size of the hatchback they are based on.
Of course you might find going up a class of car might offer you the room you need.
So instead of looking at the Polo, Corsa, Fiesta sized superminis (normal, jacked up or extended), look at the next size up hatchback like the Golf, Focus and Astra class.
Many of these have the jacked up SUVs and extended MPV versions as well.
It all depends on budget and how much more room you need, but the extended MPV supermini type vehicle should be better value than trying to find more room in a jacked up, mock SUV as you'll be looking at the larger and more expensive SUVs to get the room.

Depends on budget and how much space you want, but as others have mentioned, Skoda can be a good bet - as the old chestnut goes, thousands of mini-cab drivers can't be wrongA friend of mine has an old Octavia. It's just the standard saloon, but the boot is enormous.1

Octavia estate, there’s one for every budget. 13 years we’ve had ours. Just getting rid for a Enyaq💰💰.0

Kia Ceed, particularly the Sportswagon estate version. Depending on your budget you could get one with a year or two of warranty left.
I went from VW to Kia a few years ago and the build quality, reliability, etc are just as good if not better.0
