Dual fuel bill not recording electricity

Hi,
I currently have both my fuels(gas and electric) from the same supplier. The issue I have is that since December the electric meter has been sending meter readings but on my bill its not showing any charge for electric usage.
I have contacted OVO the supplier regarding this issue and they have assured me that the meter is working fine. The concern I have is that once this is sorted they will charge me for large amount in one bill.
Will I need to pay it as I have raised this as a concern and they have not dealt with it correctly ?

  • How do you know that your meter is sending readings? If these are not being used, how are you being billed?

Download the free app BRIGHT and you can see whether your meter is connected to the smart meter network.

Yes, the supplier can raise a bill. If the problem is not resolved within 12 months, then BackBilling rules will apply.

Yes you will need to pay this, you are using the electricty.

As you are aware of the upcoming bill why don't you just put the money you need to pay into a savings account so it is available when the bill comes.

It would need to be at least a yhear before we could look at backbilling rules and if they might apply.
  • Hi.
have you checked the actual meter, is meter stuck at the Dec reading or has advanced.
Be easy to work out usage and cost with new reading.

Like you, I have dual fuel and two Smart meters with OVO, but one randomly stopped sending readings for a couple of months lat October.

I’m on Direct Debit but as I’m a nerd I was checking my usage online via “My OVO” on their website, and recording usage and costs to see if my costs were going up as threatened by the regulator. One supply simply stopped showing costs and usage.

No big deal; I contacted them (easier than with most suppliers) and they sent me a detailed email advising a check procedure (lots of pressing buttons) and saying how I could read my (complex digital) meter. So I submitted readings. They offered to replace the dodgy meter but before they did, and a couple of months later, it sprang into life and the retrospective data suddenly appeared online.

Being a nerd, I cross checked it with the few manual readings I’d taken and guess what; all spot on!

so don’t panic. And if you ain’t already got an online account, get one; easy peasy.

The final laugh was that when I was on the dog and bone to OVO, a charming young kid asked if I really was 75, and as I am, if I’d like to go onto their “gaga” register; actually, I think he called it “older or vulnerable” or summat like that. So now, in the unlikely event that I fall into arrears, they won’t send the heavies round with crowbars and baseball bats?

OK, I’m still p155ed that between Vladimir Putin and the profiteering energy Be5tids my bills have tripled, but at least I don’t blame the nice kids at OVO.

So give it a few months to fix itself and if it don’t, ask them to? Simplz?
