Travel insurance - group Airbnb booking

Hi,
I'm not sure what to do on this one.
I have booked a cottage in the UK for next Christmas for family - approx 12 of us in total.
I paid for it through Airbnb and the others transferred me the money. The cancellation policy is 50% before October.
I hadn't really thought about travel insurance, but me and my partner have just had COVID again so it's making me think what if that happens before the holiday!
My query is whether I should have travel insurance to cover the whole thing. Or should I suggest to the other members of the group that they should have their own? I presume as I booked it, I would be liable for the whole thing?
Thanks in advance!

Travel insurance is for the traveller not the payer and so if you were the only one insured you would get 1/12th of the cost back.
You should check with the others who already has appropriate insurance in place, eg from bank accounts or just because they always have annual travel insurance, and then its up to you if you want to buy a Group policy for those currently not insured or encourage the uninsured travellers to buy their own insurance.
The one downside of Group insurance is that all members would need to give you their medical history and Aunt Mary may not want to tell you that she's had three cases of the clap in the last couple of years.1 -
Travel Insurance is normally arranged by people individually if they are single, a couple policy for couples who live together as partners or family policy for a family unit that lives together with children under 18. There may be group policies available, but you would need to fully understand how this would work in regard to any claims and what information the Insurers would require.
You really would benefit from speaking to travel insurers about this. If say 4 of the people within the 12 fell ill, so did not travel, this would not stop the other 8 from being able to continue the holiday. And it might not be straightforward for the 4 to claim for their share of the rental. E.g., exactly what health problems would the Insurers accept as a reason for not being able to travel and enjoy the Christmas break away.
Speak to a few Insurers about this. PJ Hayman brokers are specialist in Travel Insurance and offer all types of cover, so may be worth speaking to, so you are informed of pros and cons of different options. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Thanks both. I've tried PJ Hayman, very helpful but unfortunately their Staycation package isn't available at the moment.
I think it has to be a group policy, but I'm trying to find a broker to discuss that with.0
