Pub extractor fan

Hello,
Not sure where to post this but I am looking for some advice please.
My house is joined on to a country pub and there is a stone wall which separates the two properties The previous landlords have left and new landlords have now taken over.
At the back of the pub is a courtyard type area and a building that they use to cook the food in (kind of like out building /shed). They are making adjustments to this courtyard area and have put an extractor fan on the outside of the building where they cook.
The fan is higher than the wall but lower than the level of the building that they cook in. It is probably a few meters away from the wall but pointing directly towards my garden.
I very much value being able to sit outside in the warmer weather and I am concerned that this will result in the smell of food and inability to open the windows.
Does anyone know if they would have needed planning permission to put this extractor fan up and if there is anything that can be done if it becomes an issue?
I have never had an issue with anything to do with the pub but find the prospect of constant cooking smells a concern.
Thanks for any advice and apologies for poor description.

Some links...Discharge
High-level discharge of extracted air is often needed to prevent nuisance to neighbouring properties. Avoid rain caps and other devices that impede upward vertical velocity. Never use devices that direct the discharge downward as they encourage down draught and re-entry of fumes into the building. Fume discharge should also be away from wet cooling towers.

You could speak to your local council - usually the Environmental Protection team within Environmental Health. It could be a statutory nuisance in future, so they may be able to advise the pub on putting a stack on to take any odours upwards before it causes you any problems.
If the new landlords are reasonable, worth speaking to them and see if they will put a stack on. It won't necessarily eliminate all odour but should take the majority of it away from your garden.1 -

While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
Unless the pub is a listed building, then it's not a planning issue, but potentially an EH issue/statutory nuisance, on grounds of odour and/or noise. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Worked in a commercial premises and a new company next door started a process that smelled awful.
A high level stack (slightly above roof line in our case) on their extractor sorted it once and for all.0
