Selling home but for CGT, I can't recall how much I spent on buying fees!

I need to complete CGT return soon for a house sale. To get extra relief, I can put down an amount I spent on fees when buying the house and also upon selling. I obvioulsy know how much I am spending on a solicitior to sell, but the purchase was made some 17 years ago and I have a different bank account to be able to check how much I would have spent on solicitors and house surveys etc. By not having proof of how much I paid, do I miss out or am I able to give a ball park figure if I think I have one?

I would expect any reasonable estimate ought to be acceptable? It obviously wasn't zero. The solicitors might be able to tell you (or at least give you a more accurate estimate).0

Have you rented it out for a period of time ?
Did you buy it as a BTL property ?
Have you kept receipts and done a tax return over the years.

you can use an estimate if you can't remember how much it was, but you have to make it a believable estimate else you will be asked for proof.0

I lived there for 10 years from purchase but have let it for last few years. Kept receipts etc since letting it for tax return. No accountant.dimbo61 said:So did you live in the property?

Would mortgage arrangement fee go down as an expense do you think? I know that was a few thousand!
