I am a 72 year old Disabled man looking for someone to help me as I am going to University in May to study Counseling and Psychology.

I have a Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness. I am currently studying for a Level 3 Certificate in Psychology and Counselling.

In May I start my Degree Course at (Removed by Forum Team) University.

To begin with I need a lightweight folding Mobility Scooter to fit in my Car and a Laptop and Tablet. Mine, I currently have are over 8 years old.

From my research a number of Charities will only take applications from registered third parties.

Can you assist me with with this in any way or offer me guidance please?

Kind regards

I would suggest that you call the charities you think cna help you, and ask which agencies the accept referrals from.

You should also look on eBay to see what laptops you can find that would suit your needs. I bought my laptop on eBay for £350 about a year ago. It was an identical model to one I bought four years ago for £700, so it was about four year old. It runs Windows 10 fine because it is a Core i5 processor. I would recommend that any new laptop has a Core i5 or Core i7 processor.

Why do you need a tablet as well as a laptop?
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Do you have student finance to cover your fees etc? If so, you will be able to apply for disabled student support to cover the cost of adaptations.

Hi, as RAS says above, you can apply for disabled student support. You can contact the university you'll be attending in advance and discuss this with them.

Is there any chance you could also study online at all? My disabled daughter has just finished her MA and it was part time distance learning at one of the prestigious universities. I know not all universities offer that but some do. She's also made some good friends through her course because they attended zoom-like lectures. Almost like 'the real thing'.

I just googled "university funding for disabled mature students in uk" and many links popped up but these appear to be very helpful -

Congratulations on gaining a place, your post has really cheered me up as I've just turned 73 and recently launched my own small online business. I graduated with a 2.1 BA Hons degree when I was 53 and thought I was old then! But there is life after retirement and folk like us are proving that. You are never too old for anything you want to do.

Hope you manage to get some decent funding, good luck with it all.
