MET Parking Fine - KFC Gatwick Airport

Dear All,

Please can someone assist us with some advice? I have searched on the newbie board, and looked at the previous similar cases - however they are dated 2014, 2018 etc. and I am worried that the advice/legislation may be a little out of date. Also, the previous ones (McDonalds MET Gatwick) all seem to revolve around overstaying the 60 minutes which isn't what happened here,

My husband parked at KFC Gatwick Airport last night. As you enter, you are provided with a ticket from an entrance barrier (MET parking). He didn't notice any signs, nor any instruction at the machine that issued the ticket. After purchasing food, he returned to the car. There is then an approximate distance of 200 yards from the car park to the exit barrier. Once at the exit barrier, it said to provide a validated ticket. He provided said ticket (not realising that it was KFC that had to validate it). At that moment, a message flashed up on the screen "please press button to accept unauthorised parking violation ;-) " (or words to that effect). There was actually a winking face on the message on the display screen!
My husband then pressed the button, (as you can't safely then reverse 200 yards with other vehicles behind),  parked outside the barrier, and then walked back into the KFC to request the ticket be validated. The KFC staff scanned the ticket for him, and when he walked back to the ticket machine, it wouldn't accept the ticket that was now validated.

Please can you offer any advice? I appreciate that there is some blame here on my husband's side, however the whole thing from MET parking is shocking. The winking face itself is even there to wind you up. There is inadequate signage, if 60 minutes free parking is offered then that should be adhered to. Also, it's not until you get into KFC there is a small little sign saying by parking in the car park, you have now entered an agreement with MET. By which point is it too late surely to decide if you want to enter in the agreement or not?

Do we have any leg to stand on, or do we have suck it up and pay the fine to MET? Thank you in advance.

It's not a fine and do not even consider paying met.
You need to get in touch with the kfc franchise, they are responsible for the action of their agents, and tell them they must instruct met to cancel.

Do not ask then to cancel, tell them they must cancel.
Do not allow them to fob you off with nothing to do with us, you need to contact met. Met parking are their agents, they are responsible for them.
If someones dog bit you you wouldn't tell the dog off and ignore the owner

Met parking are an un regulated parking company and not any sort of authority, and as such do not issue fines
