Reward credit cards

Can anyone recommend a good reward credit card to apply for?

Intending on getting one to use to spend on monthly food shopping and fuel for the car each month and pay it off in full each month.

Thanks.

    Please define your requirements:

A fee payable? ( A few pounds a month to hundreds of pounds a year)
What kind of rewards? Cashback, points to be used in general or at specific airlines or hotels. You might want to answer this after determining if you want to use the rewards for travelling, to which destinations you wish to travel. Then seeing which airlines fly to that destination and which hotels are located at that destination.
Acceptability by merchants? Say you use it for groceries etc, then the card might be accepted. But then you want to make a big purchase which accepts other types of cards but not your card. Do you want a card that is accepted as many retailers as possible?
Are you going to do things like pay for utilities or council tax with your card so you can increase the number of points you gain?
Are you looking for sign up bonuses (the term SUB is used on other forums). These SUB's normally require spending a few thousand on your card in a matter of weeks or months.
One particular card at the moment I believe requires you to open a current account with the associated bank (but I am not sure on this last point). Are you willing to move your current account to another bank?
Are you also looking for forex fee fx transactions?

You could do worse than read the Head for Points site which covers this topic in detail. There is a section called reviews which reviews various cards. Also the home page has different stories every day about reward related travel. The forums are useful to see what issues other holders of rewards cards are having at the momet.
  • I have to agree with the previous 2 posters.  Firstly, what rewards do you want?  This is potentially the most important question.  For instance, I have a Tesco card which suits me, because the clubcard points are actually useful to me.  I know it's probably not the "best" rewards card out there, but it suits me.  A card that gives airmiles would be of very little value to me as I very rarely fly anywhere, and foreign holidays are not an annual event in my life.
And look out for the fees as well, as mentioned previously.  Many cards are fee-free.  Some charge an annual fee which may be worthwhile if you spend enough on the card and the rewards outweigh the annual fee.

    Thanks.

Pick an Amex card to suit your needs - the vast majority of supermarkets (including Aldi and Lidl nowadays, but not B&M or Home Bargains if you use them) and filling stations support Amex.
Amex cards almost always have the best rewards for 'all' spending.
I personally recommend their Nectar credit card, which offers a straightforward 1% (2 nectar points per £) for a small annual fee (waived in Y1).
