I'm sure this will be as welcome as a hole in a parachute to many on this forum but to those in the Public Sector (myself included) it will be very much welcomed. The public service pensions increase of 10.1% has now been formally announced. Here is the link for anyone interested....

People receiving their agreed salary package. not sure what there is to complain about.
As mentioned many times, I took a 30% pay cut to join the public sector as I felt the overall benefits package, including pension, was fairly equivalent. If I had instead decided to stay in the private sector with a 30% higher salary then I would not be complaining that others made a different decision. Every job, public or private sector, is open to applicants so I can't see why anyone would moan about another job having better pay and conditions.I think....10 -
Couldn't agree more. I made a similar move, albeit for something more like 75% cut but that was to return to the UK from working overseas. We all make decisions in life and should live with them. I didn't hear that many complaints from others while my take home pay for all years after 2008 was lower than in 2008 because of austerity and tax/pension/NI changes, until the final few days in 2019/20 before I retired. Life is, what it is...michaels said:People receiving their agreed salary package. not sure what there is to complain about.

Phew! They were taking so long to announce it I thought they were looking for ways round it.drummersdale said:I'm sure this will be as welcome as a hole in a parachute to many on this forum but to those in the Public Sector (myself included) it will be very much welcomed. Agreed, but the amount of comments of the “lazy useless tea swilling civil servants “ variety are enough to get really tiresome.michaels said:People receiving their agreed salary package. not sure what there is to complain about.

That would have been difficult seeing as it is set down in statute. That said, I did take a look a week or so ago and began to wonder when it would be announced but then, looking back at the history of the relevant page, it has been announced as late as the last week in March, so this year is pretty much around the "normal" time.horsewithnoname said:

I can’t see why once Sept CPI is announced that they can’t announce it straight after.1 -
Agree 100% but as we all know it's coming, the reply would probably be that it is just fitted into the regular timetable, or something like that.2

As I always say to any of my peers who might look enviously at my pension arrangements, now that we are closer to the end of our working lives - I'm sure that the option was open to anyone to apply for that lucrative Admin Assistant job in a dole office, paying £2.5K pa back when we were 17yrs old.4

Agree with all these sentiments and I did indeed join as a Clerical Assistant way back in 1981 so 42 years later and after a life dedicated to public service
I am more than happy to take the pension increase! It would be nice if those working also got a decent increase but that's for a completely different forum
