Honda jazz engine oil

2011 honda jazz 1.2 - I've been using Shell helix 5w30 in the oil changes. Question is what is the difference between A5 and c3 if I start using another brand? The oil Im thinking of using is Mannol 5w 30 C3 . Any thoughts please.Mileage 60000.

    What does the handbook say?

I'm no expert but A5 I believe supports longer intervals between oil changes.
  • Thanks mebu60, the handbook says either A3 or A5  ( as in the Shell ) but what I was getting at was what is the difference between A5 Shell and C3 Mannol? I'm  'old school' and we only had Duckhams and maybe Castrol back in the dark ages - as long as it was the right SAE all was fine. Now there's all these fancy specs.!!

A and B oils are generally for petrol and light diesel engines.
    3 is extended drain intervals.

A5/B5 oils are low-friction, low-viscosity oils with a high temperature/high shear rate viscosity.

C oils are generally more stable, lower friction oils which are low/lower SAPS oils (or mid in the case of C3), so have lower levels of sulfated ash, phosphorus and sulfur.
They are mainly intented for DPF or three way catalytic converter equiped vehicles but manufacturers may still specify A or B oils even if you vehicle is equiped with such devices.
  • Thanks Goudy, would it be unwise to use c3 or should I stick with A5/B5 OILS.
  • Search here, Passenger car, Vehicle.

I would use what the manufacturer state, it shouldn't cost you any more or any less.

They might recommend a brand, but it's the viscosity/grade and ACEA spec you are after.

    If it's 5w/30 ACEA A5, use that.

You might find the same oils have another, manufacturer spec, like a Renault RN spec or a Ford WSS spec.
These will be the same grade and ACEA but have been tested to met the manufacturers own spec, but to be honest I don't think I have seen a specific Honda manufacturer oil spec.

  • thanks all.
