It is ok to have a heat-pump tumble-dryer in cupboard under the stairs

The previous owners of our house had a tumble-dryer in a cupboard under the stairs. Not sure what type it was. There's no sign of an extractor pipe.

I guessing that a heat-pump one would create cold air in the cupboard but not create damp air. Is that right? Would it be ok here or cause problems?

Many thanks

  • If you leave the door open whilst its on, can't see it being a problem.

Is the stairway your fire escape route, especially if sleeping.

I would say added risk, with its location and probably restricted ventilation.

  • My heatpump one used to be in an inbuilt wardrobe, and now it's in a hallway cupboard. Door open while it's on. Only use in daytime and when I'm in and awake.... it's fine.

Our tumble drier is in a purpose built laundry cupboard. It condenses into a container. We leave the cupboard doors open a bit when it's on, helps to heat the adjoining room..
