Advisories for a car from 2002 - give it a miss?
My Hyundai Amica recently got scrapped and I've been considering getting another one (probably unwisely).
Oddly enough, one has come up on Autotrader close to where I live for £1,750 (next MOT end of July) with the following advisories:

None of those would give me cause for concern. Probably the most costly one would be the wheel bearing, but even for that you're not talking mega-bucks (assuming you use a decent independent mechanic rather than a main dealer or one of the big chains). You need to take into account the condition and history of the car in general, of course - but the items you've mentioned would, in themselves, not be a cause for concern.

£1,750 for for a £600-£800 banger with only 5 months MOT. That is the scariest part. I would want a full years MOT on that.3

Feels a lot for an relatively undesirable car. What is the overal condition and milegage like ?.0 -
That seems like a crazy amount for a 2002 car, regardless of MOT history.
I'd want to be buying a future classic for that kind of money, not a Hyundai Amica.
If it's not EU4, the vehicle will soon be very limited on where it can go without paying clean air charges.
Hard pass from me....

Just wondering what's going on here?
On the one hand people are talking about the second hand market being sky high & then they follow it up with old cars should be worth what they would've been 10yrs ago.
While I agree with the latter, not sure people are being all that consistent in what they're saying.
To be clear, like the OP, I too have been finding cars that should cost 3 figures & sellers are wanting considerably more for them. It's not just a one off either.0 -
I've just been on Autotrader, where listings are relatively expensive.
I'd expect £1,750 to by a 2007ish vehicle, not a 2002 model (unless 'classic' potential, BMW, VW, GTI, Type R etc).
If it's the red Amica in Glasgow, I'd run a mile. It's done approx 40miles per week for 21 years (44,000miles), that doesn't fill me with confidence.0 -
