Confusion over bills with PAYG smart meter
Comments

If you use more than 3.1kWh a day, (about £1 at current rates), PAYG is more expensive on the numbers you gave.I can't speak for bulb, but once the move to Octopus is complete, you can set your own Direct debit amount if you think its wrong - although, you need to be sure about that, credit accounts usually build up that credit during the summer when usage is lower and burn it in the winter, an artificially low DD can lead to bill shocks later.
Don't worry about feeling naive, we all start somewhere. When I first moved out on my own and got a flat I didn't even think to change supplier or tariff, I probably spent a lot more than I had to. I only figured this stuff out when I bought a house.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). Did you obtain your own key or card when you moved in? If not, you may be paying off the previous user's debt on the meter. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks both. Yes at first I was paying the last person's debt off... this has now been sorted and it in my name (very annoying...). Prepay meters are the worst!
When Bulb has finished moving to Octopus I will have a word with them as it's hard to get much sense from them at the moment!0
