I’m fuming. I’ve used Revolut for a number of years when abroad with absolutely no problem. Could not recommend the company highly enough.

And then . . . .

I got an email from Revolut and an in app message saying that unfortunately they were unable to continue to offer their services and I had 60 days to return funds to my bank before they deactivated my account for good.

No reason was given. I went on their chat service and their agent was unable to tell me why they were deleting my account.

Apparently Revolut have no obligation to explain their actions (also apparently it’s in their terms and conditions). So that’s it, I can’t reapply and can never have a Revolut account ever again.

So be warned people. Revolut can pull the rug from underneath you at any time with no reason or comeback.

Can anyone recommend an alternative? Is Wise or Post Office prepaid card any food?

Thank you.

  • Revolut did not "pull the rug from underneath you....with no reason". They had a reason, they're just not telling you what it is.

For most overseas uses a Chase account will do much the same job as Revolut at similar exchange rates and no transaction charges.

A 60 day account closure is standard practice amongst banks and all will include the option to close an account within their T&C's. Without knowing your details it is hard to offer much advice but it could be a concern around you residence in the UK if you spend a lot of time abroad or it could have activated a dormancy rule if you ONLY use it abroad sporadically.

Something on your account triggered Revolut. Try not to do the same again with your next bank as this would likely lead to the same outcome.
  • Fineco UK, Chase, or HSBC Global Money (as an existing HSBC UK customer) are better alternatives to Revolut IMHO
  • Thanks for responses so far. I have an ok balance with Lloyds Bank and top up my prepaid Revolut card a few days before I go away. I’m generally not abroad for more than 30 days total a calendar year so residency issues shouldn’t come into play at all.

I stopped using Revolut ages ago because of its rubbish customer service. Further, the conditions of the free account have worsened significantly over time. You can now only spend £1000 per month without incurring foreign transaction fees.

I would consider using getting Barclaycard Rewards credit card and/or the Starling debit card. These have no limits and no fees on overseas spending and Starling allow unlimited ATM withdrawals abroad with no fees.
