Yes it formed an arch. However instead of having a party wall right in the middle, we own the back half of the alleyway and above it, and the neighbour owns the front half of the alleyway and above it. We both have right of way to access our back garden.

New drill arrived in the morning today. Box was not too big but when I opened the box I was terrified by the size and weight of the new drill 😂 I decided to mentally prepare myself for a while (was thinking days) and watch some youtube videos to accumulate enough courage.

By noon I started to feel fed up with how scared it made me. So I decided to just give it a go. Also wanted to do it before husband comes back from work because he would only be more scared than me about this and that will make me more scared. Not his fault though he’s just not very handy.

Anyway I did it!! Drilled two pilot holes for the masonry screws. Mirror is medium biggish but not actually very heavy (6.6kg). Feels very sturdy.

I’m immensely proud of myself. Knowing that if I encounter a problem I can come up to this board and ask for advices really helps. Thank you everyone for just being here 🥰

Good for you!  A lot of DIY jobs are actually pretty simple - but if you've never tackled something before, of course it's going to seem extremely daunting.  But hopefully this experience will give you the confidence to tackle the next job that needs doing.  And the more you do, the more you learn and the better you get.
    It's a great feeling, isn't it? :)

It feels so good! Where I came from no normal household will even have a basic drill, only tradespeople have drill, you never drill into walls yourself, so I grew up never having seen any family member using a drill. I’ve been watching some videos of people doing basic diy. It seems like it’s a super common skill to have in certain parts of the US. I thought to myself that it must give one so much sense of security knowing you can build and fix stuff just like that. Their children must feel very secure in that sense as well, and they will have the confidence to do these kind of things. Obviously my parents also made other skills seem very easy to me, I just didn’t have the confidence in this department.

Now just hope that the mirror stays up there alright and I can stop worrying about it falling down and tearing down the wall 😂

Hang on! I wouldn't have recommended an SDS drill had I known you were a girlie.

    (hangs head in shame...)

    Nicely done.

These days, just because someone has a husband doesn't automatically imply that they're a female :)

  • My very bad :-)
  • I’m indeed a female 😂

If I had bothered to watch some videos before ordering then I certainly would have gone for a smaller one. Was just too overwhelmed 😂 Anyway it did the job and now I have a sci-fi movie weapon!
