RTB taking forever

Hello, more of a rant than anything although any advice etc would be welcomed.
Last May we decided, eventually, to go ahead and go for RTB.
We got all the HA stuff done, yes they took pretty much as long as they were permitted, but got there. By December we had a Mortgage agreement, but that was a joke in itself. Lender kept messing up the amount, eventually got it right, and then within 24 hours, sent another offer effectively voiding the correct 1. By now, that had been going on 6 weeks or so. I therefore, in total frustration contacted lender personally prior to poking the broker. This seemed to sort that out.
Anyway we haven't moved on since December, solicitor has re requested items we have sent. A month ago we were told we'd be receiving the mortgage deed......nothing
This fun and games started 8 months ago. Our mortgage offer stands for 3 more months. We are getting a bit antsy....obviously this is all new to us. Should we be being more vocal? More persistent? Getting to the point where we're considering cutting our losses and saying sod it. We are older buyers so each month there's a delay it counts more than if we were 30 somethings......
Why didn't we bite the bullet 5/10 years ago.......
Obviously we know the reason, there's always that little uncertainty, and we are just too darn cautious....
Thanks for reading.
