On my Astra they fall out on a regular basis ,they are cheap and are plastic and just screw into the cardboard covered trim in the boot of the car.

I wouldn't worry about it, should be an easy fix.  I had something similar happen years ago with an Orion whereby something in the distributor failed between paying for the car and collecting it.  The second-hand trader bought a new bit and had it fitted for me, as the car had been sold as a runner.  Same principle should apply here.

OP, please say you aren't considering an attempt at rejection over a bit of plastic being broken?
I would definitely consider rejection if the dealer turned awkward. Although it does sound as if this dealer is wanting to help.
    On what grounds?

Used car with a broken trim piece.

    It's not trim, it's a functional part.
You might struggle to persuade a judge that a 30 day rejection under CRA 2015 was justified on the grounds that a broken parcel shelf rendered a car 'unfit for purpose'.

  • When cars arrive here the parcel shelf is taken out and the dog guard fitted and the parcel shelf is probably never seen again.

The age of the car will have to be taken into account too.  Going by a few details in the photo, the OP's car is likely to be long in the tooth.

So, are you suggesting that the OP's remedy, should the garage refuse to fix it, is to drop their complaint and buy a dog?

Sounds like the stress free way of sorting out the problem.

Alternatively just junk the parcel shelf.
