    The door looks removable? Phew, so you didn't do too much wrong there.

    If the cause is as I suspect - tho' obviously I cannot tell if it's so - then it's not down to 'wear', but burnt m/s contacts. So there will be no physical evidence from outside the oven.

    The symptoms ring a bell with me, as some features appeared to work ok whilst others didn't - on mine I recall the TT rotated, but the magnetron didn't fire up with its classic hummm. I then discovered that if I pulled gently on the door, it would come on. When I found a total of 3 microswitches in the mechanism, it then made sense - the switches controlled different parts. The damaged - overheated - one was also very obvious.

    This is inside the casing, which you should not remove. It was also either behind, or very close to, the front panel control board, with LOTS of wires and other tricky stuff. I believe I did mention the very high voltages that could lurk, STORED, within. It ain't for the faint-hearted for both sets of reasons.

    All I can suggest is, based on the symptoms, you can ask a couple of appliance folk about the likely cost of repair. If they agree that a ms or two* is the likely culprit, they should also be able to give you a quote - they should be able to look up the parts required. You can then make the decision. Of course, there remains the chance there's other issues too - the next failure on mine was the magnetron itself, so dumpski time.

    This is a built in mo? How much would it cost for a replacement?

    *If they do carry out a repair, then ask them to replace ALL the door switches - very little extra cost. I stupidly didn't, and had the repeated hassle of replacing another one a while later.

    @ThisIsWeird : Indeed, I only removed the door becuase the manual said it was safe to do so (so as to clean the microwave).

    Ive been watching this video about microswitches which others may find helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6JeYKoaUn8

    It certainly looks like it is  a micro switch issue. I will mention to the engineer.

    Its a CDA VK902 microwave. I cant find it for sale online, so perhaps theyve stopped making that model. :(

    CDA= Cheap Domestic Appliances.
    Invest in a new, better brand that will serve you well. We had a built-in CDA dishwasher that failed under warranty due to the "repetitive opening and closing of the door" rubbing through the cabling that ran through the hinged area!
    It was repaired but failed again outside the warranty so we replaced it with a NEFF one, quite a few years ago, and it is still working just fine.

    Assuming the VK903 is its successor, then - at £630 - a repair has got to be worth the gamble? All depending on the labour charge, and if it's the cause... :-)

    Yes, to a degree.
    I would happily bet - tho' could well lose - that the actual m'switches are the same make as used in 90% of MOs. Ditto for elements, magnetrons, TT motors, etc - all the major parts.
    The Sharp's MS was 'Omron' make - an established co and sold via RS and others. Chances are the CDA's will be too.
