Do we need further advances in Quantum Computing to understand British Gas bills?

Got email from British Gas informing me my energy statement was ready. Logged into account, downloaded statement. Apart from fact it's hard to tell what is a credit and what a debit on the statement (are debits blue?) the statement displays in large font:

Good news, your payments are spot on. Your monthly payments are on track to cover your expected energy use.

I then look at the my account page on the website and it says, in large font:

It looks like you are not paying enough for your energy.
Based on your usage, we suggest you consider increasing the amount you pay every month by amending your Direct Debit amount.

What? How can both of these things be true at the same time?

Does anyone understand this?

Sounds like 2 different times, at the first point you were spot on, but now, you are not.
Ignore it and it might switch back again, I've had that with EDF before.
"It looks like you are not paying enough for your energy"... <do nothing>... "You are on track".... OK.

Okay, but it was at exactly the same time. This morning.

the statement was generated just before you got the email. you probably went on a bit later and saw the message on your account. id guess in between those times your meter maybe sent a reading that used some of your credit balance? or something else making the computer think your dd was now not enough.

it probably means that if your dd isnt enough then its very close so at least if theres a short fall it hopefully wont be a huge amount.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.
  • No, this meter is not sending anything anywhere. It's one of those non-magic meters. Looks like it was built in the early 1900's...old school. (And I submitted a reading few days ago so that bill would be accurate.)

I just logged in again to see if there were any "lag"-type issues that might have been cleared up since this morning, but nope...still shows the same contradiction between webpage and downloaded (from webpage) bill.

According to British Gas I am both not paying enough for your energy and my payments are spot on.

Can't understand why it's so hard for these corps to give a simple picture of where we stand with bills etc.

I mentioned this several months ago - and as you have demonstrated it's still happening - at the moment, by my spreadsheets, I'm not paying enuf, especially with an EPG rise to come in a couple of months - but the BG website still wants me to reduce my DD "to prevent me being in credit at plan end" in December!!.
My last bill shows my estimated annual consumption by BG ,to be even higher than the figures I'm working from, so if I reduce my DD I'll be £100s in debt by December using their figures on the last bill - They really are a useless Company !!
