Item sold over 1 year ago - warranty claim

Options
Item (external SSD Drive) sold via eBay in October 2021.
Item no longer available on eBay but I would estimate sale value of £160 or so….
I am a private seller.

Buyer emails me via eBay today stating item has developed a fault. He has been on to the manufacturer who will replace the item upon receipt of original purchase invoice. Hence he wants the invoice from me.

As the sale was so long ago I don’t think an eBay invoice is even an option now.
I know I could have just ignored the request at this stage, but thought I would try to help regardless.

I originally purchased the item in Feb 2021 from Amazon.com (yes, from the US, as I had vouchers to use). I can therefore go to my Amazon.com account and get the invoice, which I have done.

I have blanked out my personal details (shipping address etc) and sent the invoice across to him. I wasn’t sure if this was right or not but I didn’t feel comfortable giving out my home address in this way??
Do you think this was the right thing to do or am I being OTT?

Anything else I should or should not do in this case?

  • If you have any further problems, you can now go back 2 years for eBay sales. Put your search term into your orders and then use the custom button to specify the search length.

An eBay invoice from a private seller may not be good enough anyway. It all depends whether the buyer declared he effectively bought this as second person owned, or new.

Dofferent manufacturers treat their warranties differently and not all are transferable. However, that is of course the buyers issue not yours and you can only do the bare minimum to help your buyer.

If it was a private sale then you don't have to do anything.
  • Thanks guys - I was concerned about possible card chargebacks etc, but I haven’t heard back since sending the invoice (albeit with my details blanked out). Will consider it closed from here!
