HI I am looking at an USB Flash Drive  to use with my TV for recordings, The TV is ultra 4K if that makes a difference.
Which would be suitable a 32GB 3.0 or 64 GB usb 3.0
or
32GB  or 64GB usb 3.1
It will mostly be TV programmes which will be deleted after watching and the odd film or 3

Thanks

Only from my own limited personal experience, any USB stick I have ever put in my TV has worked.
As for 32 GB or 64 GB that all depends on how many recordings/filims/files you want to put on the USB stick.
The only problem you may encounter is trying to load a file larger than about 4 GB on to the stick, to work on some TV's the USB stick will have to be formatted in FAT which means you will have about a 4 GB limit on the file size, if your TV works with exFAT formatting the 4 GB file size limit goes away.
  • The odd film or three may well add up space wise so get a bigger drive than you think you might need.

As mentioned is your TV capable of the faster USB speeds?

If not no need to spend the extra money.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

The usb ports aren't blue like my PC and has this next to each one but haven't a clue what it means.

    The 32GB is £5.49 and the 64GB is £8.98 usb 3.0

Just noticed the 64GB in Blue is sold by a 3rd party and not  Amazon but the same size in Black is sold by Amazon.

    Thanks

They are not expensive - Bought Three USB 3  - 32gb from Argos the other day £20.97 - and I give them away to clients.

That looks exactly like the back of my Samsung TV. :)

I use a high endurance microSD card in a microSD to usb adaptor, you can't get high endurance usb sticks.

Mind you, the old TV lasted 6 years with a Verbatim 64GB usb2 stick, it was used a lot for timeshifting, so maybe the high endurance isn't necessary, but I worry that these more modern "better" "cheaper" devices are not as robust as they were years ago.

64GB is plenty big enough for a few films, a couple of episodes of a series and some clips of news items, recipes etc.
The menu for recording playback is useless for more than a dozen or so recordings anyway.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • As one of the USB ports supports a hard drive, why not buy a Toshiba 1TB Canvio, available for ~£45 on Amazon just now?

First thing to do is look at the TV spec and see what limits (if any) are on the USB stick. Also what formatting of the stick is supported (FAT, exFAT, NTFS?)

My (admittedly old) TV only supports a max of 32GB FAT for example

I cant find anything about USB sticks on the specs but the tv is new.
