Best Picture Size and Ratio for eBay

Is there an optimum picture size for eBay

I just photograph my items with my phone, using the ebay app, after initially using a template on the PC for the wording.

A friend is just starting out with eBay and asked me about pixel sizes etc .. What !!!

I know there are image ratios, 16:9   4:3 and  1:1 ..but which is best for eBay please

It really doesn't matter. I just trim the photos to try and fit only the item I am selling in the frame, so depending upon angles etc. I could have 12 different photos with 12 different aspect ratios.

The main thing is the quality and in many cases the lighting and focus is more important than the camera or resolution, though obviously the more resolution the better.

One thing I have noticed is that if you upload a very large resolution to eBay and then crop it in the ebay editing tool, the quality is awful. So if I ever have to do this, I crop it in a third party photo editor before uploading it.

Small trims are fine with the ebay app though.

    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

16:9, 4:3 etc is just the aspect ratio.  You probably don't want to go by any of those.

You want it big enough to be able to read any text or see any detail.  The picture needs to be as big as
it take to show those. I just crop down to as close as I need and thats the size.

Check the file size also, I run several forums and quite often someone posts a picture which turns out to be the size of a postage stamp
yet the file size can be over 450kb. Absolutely nothing readable in the image, enlarging does nothing because there is not enough detail
to enlarge. I reduced the file size to 27kb with zero loss of visual quality.

Depending on the item I try and make the image at least 600pixels. That should be visible on most devices without having to scroll around
the image. If i need more detail then I will double or triple that as required.

I use an old camera set to 1mb. The pictures are fine for ebay. I'm assuming thats what she's asking about with regards to pixel size.
