Is this expensive for home contents insurance?

Hi all,
Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. I am living in shared accomodation with two other young professionals. In seeking a home contents policy, I quickly discovered that only a few places insure for people living in rented, shared places. *naive*. The quote that I've been given is £22 per month.
Is this way over the odds, or is this ok?
Am I being stupid by saying that I live in shared accomodation? Should I say that I live with my partner in order to get a possibly cheaper quote? (there is another guy in the house, but we're not a couple but how the hell would the insurance co know this).
Looking forward to hearing back from anyone.
Earthgirl.

I think that even if you say that you live with your partner (which would of course leave you open to a charge of fraud, so I wouldn't advise it myself!), the fact that you have another person in the house would put you back in the 'shared accommodation' bracket.
I don't know if it would make a difference if you tried to get insurance as a household, rather than as individuals? We've nearly always been more than 'family', which I know meant there used to be an exclusion to say that if there was no sign of forced entry then we wouldn't be covered for theft.
If that's what you've already been quoted for, ie as a household rather than as an individual, then sorry, I've misunderstood.
The household cover would also be useful if you buy anything together.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks for the response Sue. Much appreciated. Do you think that £22 is an ok quote?

Hi Earthgirl
It does seem a little excesive, what amount of contents is that actually covering ?
Have you looked at this site :

honestly don't know if there are any rules & regs concerning shared accomodation, but may be worth a look
Good luck
