    One other (coldly practical) thought: was your daughter's partner in employment at the time he died? If so, it's worth checking with the employer whether there is (a) any sort of death in service benefit and (b) whether there are any benefits in a workplace pension scheme.
    Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

    Another consideration is if he belonged to a union. I helped my friend when her husband was killed, a colleague suggested I checked if he belonged to a union. He did and she got £2.5k within a week, helped to keep her afloat until she could catch her breath.
