B & Q Rip Offs n Savings

When shopping at B & Q its worthwhile asking yourself the question whether
the thing your buying could possibly be in one of the other departments as
well as the one for your use.
Example 1
I bought two 2.8 Mtr strips of the plastic strip from the bathroom
department that is used to seal around the bath. They cost me about £9
each. I wasn't happy when a few days later I saw the same stuff with a
different barcode at about £1.50 being sold as a finishing moulding used
between the floor and the wall for laminate flooring. I saw similar but not
quite the same stuff even cheaper in the PVC Windows department.
Example 2
I almost bought a plaster sealer for about £8 from the decorating department
but was tipped off that its only PVA with a fancy label. Sure enough the
PVA was being sold for about £2 in the building section.
B & Q must know this but are exploiting the needs of the customer. They
know that around the bath we will pay £9 a length as we don't need that
much. But we wouldn't pay £9 a length to do a whole room. I would much
rather B & Q show some genuine common sense in grouping like products
together with a usage guide rather than paying for expensive advertising
telling me how much of a favour there doing me in keeping their prices low!
Cheers

They are different things, the stuff for laminate flooring would not seal your bath properly.

by the way i dont work for B&Q 0 -
trust me the bath sealant on its own is not sufficient to get a water tight seal so it has to be used in conjunction with a silicone type sealant. The floor trim is sealed as effectively when used in the same way

B&Q are robbin` baskets like ALL your "Superstores"
https://www.screwfix.com sell almost everything most DIY sell
and a LOT cheaper and deliver next day.
Wickes are another place and they deliver as well.
Buy your wood local from timber merchants, stay away
from the DIY stores, most of their advice is rubbish they
know as much as you.A wise man changes his mind, a fool never will.

B&Q can be very expensive for many things, sure they have some good deals around as advertised, but small things can often me far more than your local ironmongers.
Screwfix are very cheap on-line retailer, did you know that b&Q own them, I just recently found out a they moving there distribution and merging it with B&Q think its at Stoke.
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -
Yeah - and isn't that builders PVA the same stuff as wood glue - which also sells at big bucks.
I would also endorse that Screwfix are lots cheaper than any superstore - I recently bought £60 of shelving brackets from Screwfix - the would have cost me £250 at B&Q. Same stuff.
Hate B&Q - they put all the other stores out of business then put up their prices and cut their staff so the queues on a weekend are horrendous.
In my opinion. >:(Mark Hughes' blue and white army0 -
Oh - quick tip to share.
If you're using silicone around a bath, then before you use it fill the bath full (to the normal level) with water...
This will mean that you won't get the problem of the sealant coming away from the wall after a few months, because the reason this happens is that all baths 'sink' a little (pardon the pun).
Will save time and hair tearing.CarQuake / Ergo Digital0 -
I agree that Screwfix are a lot cheaper than most stores but did you know that your money will still end up with B&Q as they bought the firm a couple of years ago.0

Further to comments about B&Q owning screwfix, I would also urge caution as there's quite a lot of things they do have cheaper, but a surprising amount that they don't.
as e.g. I tried to buy some microbore solder joints but on screwfix they're £19 for 10, You can buy the same in B&Q (if you can find them) for about £9, that's even buying them in packs of 2.
I didn't realise that B&Q actually bought screwfix, I got the impression they set it up. If true, seems they bought the company and then screwed it up by trying to move it. Lovely job ;D I like the way they said their current problems would last about a week and we're about a month and a half on....0
