  • OP - I wonder if you are not familiar with the difference between the LL and the freeholder in this instance? You may be, but for the benefit of anyone else reading later who is scratching their heads...

    You rent your property from your landlord. You have a tenancy agreement with them, which means they have certain responsibilities to you. 
    Your landlord will have a lease for the property they rent to you from the owner of the building as a whole - that "owner" is generally referred to as the freeholder. The freeholder has certain responsibilities to your Landlord.

    This is why in this instance, the suggestion that "the Landlord is responsible for the lifts" is being corrected. Not only does the Landlord not have a responsibility to repair the faulty lift, it's highly likely that they would simply not be allowed to take unilateral action to do so! 

    I feel for the OP in this situation as they must be very anxious about being in a position where in an emergency their only option would be to sit tight and wait for rescue - it really is appalling that they were discharged from hospital into this situation. I'd also echo the suggestion that if they are able to stay in a safer environment - perhaps with family or friends - for the time being, that would be better.

    Hi OP

    Sorry to hear about your problems but I often say to the young and the old, think hard when you go to live in a property above the first floor. 

    Sadly, larger blocks can face lift probelms, even both lifts as parts are diffuclt to source etc

    Ask the LL for a rent reduction, but if it was me, I'd say no unless there was lacking on my part which in your case does not appear to be so.

    Have you asked LA's what the problem delay is?  Is the FH the LA?

    (I hope this helps, but or boiler broke down a few years ago, we had warranty paid good money for it but they could bnot come out for two days, then they had to order parts and it took two weeks to repair - it is what it is at times and supply problems or diagnosis of fault problems and getting people booked to fix can take time)

    When you had the operation - what was the outcome of your Safe Discharge Plan, ie did you tell them the lifts regularly break down?
