Child trust fund

Sorry if I've posted in the wrong group!
My eldest turned 18, and it just occurred to me that I forgot all about that child trust fund the government was piloting back in the early 2000s.
Has anyone's child managed to get hold of their money after all these years?

Did you continue to pay into it, or does it just contain the Government contribution?  Did you open the account yourself, or did you go for the default option?  Whatever your answers, the paperwork sent to you at the time should include the account details.

  • No, I never paid into it, and I think it was put into a random account by the government department. I forgot all about it until recently.
  • I doubt i still have the paperwork either.

I tried this - got the name of the provider it was invested with (One Family).  Went to their website and ticked the boxes and got a screen saying "good news - we may have your trust fund!".  But can't get any further than that.  In order to try and find out whether they do have it, they want an account number, which we don't have, and an email to customer services went un replied to.

Have you tried ringing them? In my experience a lot of companies ignore emails.

Sorry to  piggyback on this thread but I since rang the provider and have found out the CTF was transferred to a building socitey as an ISA.  So a success in a  way, but I wish they would have replied to my email if only to say please ring as we can't answer email queries about this.

OP if you really did completely forget about it, and not just forget that you'd transferred it like me, you should get somewhere with asking HMRC for the details of who it was with and then going direct to the provider.

I just traced mine last week via the government website.

I filled in all the details and then received a letter in the post a week later with details of the company that has the trust fund. I just need to phone them up now!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
