Stamp Duty reclaim question

Hello,
Apologies if this have been asked before, but I've tried to have a good look and don't think I've seen this exact scenario!
I live with my partner in a property she owns. I have a flat which I used to live in but have now been renting out for a few years.
We're now looking to buy somewhere new together. She will sell her current home and we'll buy the new one together.
I understand we'll pay the extra stamp duty due to this being an extra property for me.
My question is, can I reclaim the extra stamp duty if I see my other house say 6 months later?
My concern is it is technically not my main residence, but it is the only other home I own.
Whereas if I sold it first we would not pay the extra stamp duty in the first place.
Thanks!

How long is a few years? Has it been 3+ years since you last occupied the flat as your main residence?Roose25 said:Hello,
