What is your Best Price? Question

  • Lowball offers generally I just ignore.

If someone asks about the best price I generally reply with what I would be willing to accept but 99 times out of 100 they're looking for a silly price.

I generally will consider sensible offers on my listings just to shift stuff. In an ideal world I'd just list everything for £1 and let the auction find its value but quite often I find there's only 1 bidder on my stuff so it doesn't really work out. So I'm tending to list things higher priced than I really think it's worth initially to see if anyone bites and then consider offers or reduce the pricing when I relist if it doesnt sell.

I tend to sell my 2nd hand stuff as auction listings as the value is sometimes hard to predict but I have best offer on as its easier than dealing with the messages. But most of the time I want at least the opening bid price so have auto-reject on.
  • classic example of a lowball douchebag right now, I have a barbell and 80Kg weights listed for £120(I'd take £100) and I have just had an offer now for £50. then a follow up message with "liv local 2 u m8 can collect nw £50 cash"
    no thanks

I never get offers via message but am not a big seller, but am inclined to agree where I have had issues on sales with buyers it's those wanting almost brand new for pennies and who get uppity that the item I sold and described accurately was not perfect.
Where I get offers, if they are very low ball I decline with no response, if they are lower than I'd like I do counter offer. If someone messaged asking best price I would be inclined to reject and block as agree with above that I would get red flags.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

I buy and sell vintage and antiques  as part of my small  business and asking for your best price is an accepted term. You only have to watch any of the myriad programmes on the TV to see this. They pick up an item and ask 'what's you very best price on this'.

Basically therefore for me the term itself is not an issue at all and as before, I would suggest a price I would accept and tell them to offer through the ebay system.

This is fair enough. What gets my goat is where the buyer responds with "You will never sell for that much. I can get the item for XX here [links to some foreign dodgy site]. Therefore I would offer XX."
I politely respond and ask them to make their purchase elsewhere in that case.

Had someone come back to me once saying that an item I was selling was cheaper on Amazon and even provided me a link.
Turns out the item was being shipped from a third party seller in another country, with a 30 days shipping period, and would be subject to customs and VAT etc!
When I pointed this out I never heard back from the buyer at all! lol

I've had that a few times, I have it on marketplace at this very moment. I take great satisfaction from telling them I'd rather keep the item than sell it too low, and then sell it from under them to someone else at full price.

I have something listed on marketplace now for £15, have had lots of offers around the £12 mark but also people saying they will take it at £15, and hopefully have someone collecting later this evening for £15. Got one offer at £6, went up to £8 when I said no thanks and did the usual ' I know what its worth mate and you aint getting more than £8 from anyone' . Fingers crossed it goes tonight at £12 , although I do have 2 other people waiting to collect tomorrow at £12 if first buyer doesn't arrive.

Very tempting to go back to those providing low ball offers and tell them the item sold for full price! Lol

There is nothing more satisfying than ignoring a barrage of lowball offers as soon as an item is listed, then another buyer just clicks on buy it now and it's gone. then later you get the "is the item still available, I'd be willing to pay the full BIN price"... message
    "no it's gone sorry" !
